Lime hydrator is essentially a mixing and reacting chamber. lts basic working principle is to mix quicklime with water in a designed ratio to produce calcium hydroxide powder under controlled temperature and at the same time releasing the generated heat in the form of steam. To accurately control lime and water feeding rate, lime weighing feeder, electromagnetic water flowmeter, water pump and flow control valves are mandatory before the hydration unit. 

Based on the requirements of capacity and/or quality for the hydrated lime, the hydrator can have one or multi mixing shafts, 2 to 5 units may be installed in a group to form a multi-stage hydration system. All hydrators are installed with temperature sensors to monitor the reaction temperature in order to timely adjust the water feeding rate. Auto pneumatically controlled weirs to extend lime residence time for purpose of full hydration and meanwhile release non-reactive grits based on load parameters. A screening device can also be installed inside or outside the hydrator to remove large-sized over-burned or under-burned limestones that are non-hydratable. Fine hydrated lime powder is then conveyed into powder classifier or classifying mill to obtain the desired particle sizes.
